We have signed a joint statement urging the UK Government to take immediate action to restrict the use of PFAS to protect the nation’s health.
PFAS (per and poly-fluorinated alkyl substances) are a category of synthetic substances, nicknamed “forever chemicals”, because they do not break down in the environment. Valued for their non-stick and stain-repellent properties, they can be found in food packaging, cosmetics, cookware, waterproof clothing, carpets, mattresses and electronics.
This exposure in everyday products and the environment has been linked to an array of adverse health conditions. These include thyroid disease, liver damage, reduced birth weight, obesity, diabetes, reduced response to vaccination and increased cancer risk.
Join us in calling on the UK Government to act now to address the growing problem of PFAS pollution.
